Stassi might not be ready opening day: hip issue in addition to "personal situation"

Halos can not start season with Thaiss and O'Hoppe. Pitchers will need a veteran catcher, Alfaro comes to mind. Only solution Kurt Suzuki

I have no ill will towards him and hope everything is OK, but from a baseball standpoint, I'm really hoping that O'Hoppe can use this opportunity to take the starting job and run with it

Stassi had hip surgery in the 2020-2021 offseason. Not sure if this injury is related to that.

I know he didn't say he was dealing with an injury last season, but you always wonder if that's the case when a player has that big of an offensive drop-off.

I like Stassi, he's been a solid catcher, but....... I feel his head is not in the game with all of the personal issues. He didn't have a very good season last year, and with the addition of O Hoppe I feel his days are numbered. I agree that the Halos need a vet catcher to start the season but I would not be surprised if Matt Thaiss  is the opening day starter.

Thaiss is a LHH. Muller (OAK Opening Day starter) is a LHP. So, no, Thaiss will not be Opening Day starter. At this point, it looks like it'll be O'Hoppe.

His real situation/issue is he can't hit. No big loss if he misses significant time.

He is catcher who has helped halos young starters so he will be missed.

A bit of a blessing in disguise: The Angels don't have to choose between Thaiss and O'Hoppe, and both can audition for platoon partner with Stassi once he's back.

Gary Sanchez is still available. For a couple million, he might make a lot of sense.

He might be able to get Will Ferrell to play again, too.
