I feel like this is a mistake. Maybe give them the 10th and 11th, and then if you get to the 12th...

I use to really enjoy the extra inning sloughs that would run into late night.  Very sad.  rip.

Some people call it the Zombie runner, I think it’s bush league but it does shorten games.

I don't like this rule. Not as it is. I could see if a game is going into like the 13th inning or later, but immediately having a runner on 2nd in the 10th if the game has been a well played 0-0 or 2-2 game ... or even a slobberknocker 8-8 feels deflating.

First, I'm not a fan of this. I don't think there was ever anything wrong with extra innings pre-2020, and it sucks we need to change this part of the game to appease the "games are like too slow, man" crowd.

But, being as this is the permanent rule now, I wonder if it will affect rosters a bit. Given that we're now at 26 players on the roster, I wonder if some teams will switch to carrying one really high end pinch runner instead of the extra pitcher that most teams tend to use that extra spot for. Like does this rule along with the 26 man roster make the Jarrod Dyson's of the world just a bit more valuable?

I doubt any team puts a player on the bench to show up 6 times a season at most.

Most teams average about 12-13 extra inning games per year, which makes it worth considering in my opinion. Just one extra dude with blazing speed and maybe one more skill (probably defense).

Although I fully realize the players voted for this too as part of the Joint Committee, it seems Manfred pretty much remains undefeated at pissing the majority of the fans right before Spring Training. What a disgrace he's been to baseball.

It’s not my favorite rule but if the Angels could actually be better playing extra inning games it would make me feel better about the rule

Reminds me of the shootout in the NHL. They play an entire game five-on-five, five minutes of three-on-three, then they resort to essentially penalty shots to decide who wins? Seems minor league to me.

i wonder if having the ghost runner the last two seasons sped things up compared to years without it. if their goal is to prevent games that go 15+ innings, i'm not bothered by this.

This might be a good thread to ask who all was here for that 19 inning game in 2014? I actually was out in Anaheim on vacation for that series and was there that night. I remember the agony of the Angels kept getting runners on and not getting them in. But now that those games have been taken away what a memory now.

Perhaps but my gripe with MLB isn’t the length of the games so much as the pace.
