I’m actually pleased with this.  Thaiss is playing where he belongs, 1B.  Soto is a fine SS.  One question, where is Adell?  He needs to play every day if he’s going to amount to anything.

Adell had a really nice game last night and now sits. I do not understand this. Is it that Moniak played ball with Nevin's kid?

I want Adell to get time, too, but it doesn't hurt to see Moniak get some ABs, too--especially against right-handed starters.  They need to evaluate him, too.

Well, what's the solution?  Benching Ward?  Sitting Ohtani to let one of Adell or Moniak DH?  Unfortunately, there's not a good solution.

Also because there's only three outfield spots and Ohtani isn't giving up the DH spot anytime soon.

I didn’t say there was a solution. That’s the problem.

 

I’m just saying that if he really wanted to, he could pick one guy (Adell or Moniak) and give them everyday playing time with the other on the bench.

Instead, he’s platooning them, which gives neither everyday playing time.

Yeah, I get that.

My point was that if Nevin truly believed the only path to success for Adell/Moniak was everyday playing time, he’d play one everyday and sit the other. Instead, he’s platooning them.

Put Thaiss at third and sit Duffy. Put Moniak at 1B. Players that are not going to be on halos next year sit.
