Even if the Angels didn't have a bottom 5 farm system and could outbid every other team, then what? I doubt we could extend Soto and Ohtani.

I've said this before about other possibilities, but if we want Ohtani to stay, we need to convince him we're serious about trying to win.  Getting Soto would certainly do that.  I don't think we have any shot as I don't think their pool is good enough but pretty much everything should be on the table here if we're truly trying to compete with Trout and Ohtani.

Soto is still Soto, he got off to a very slow start and he started "slow" last year too.

I'd actually love to see Reed and the Angels as a whole somehow turn Soto into a .220 hitter that strikes out 6 times as much as he walks. It would be their masterpiece in a way.

The Angels should certainly inquire, but we would have to empty part of our Major League roster and our farm to even have a chance.

Names like Adell, Sandoval, Detmers, Marsh, Paris, Bachman, Guzman, et al. would all have to be in the conversation and even then I think we fall woefully short in the quality over quantity conversation.

Nats are a dumpster fire. I’m sure him rejecting could have something to do with his agent but he may also want out of there. 
 

Makes no sense for the Angels to go after him since it’s questionable if they can afford to extend Ohtani. Also the fact that they can’t afford to gut their system or part of the ML roster.

I mean guys are getting $35-40 million these days and they are offering $29 million a year for maybe the best offensive player in the game at age 23.  Oh and it’s backloaded with money deferred. It’s a helluva lot of money but not surprising he is turning it down.

Soto is a rental.

Unless you can get him to agree to a contract, how could the Angels possibly give Adell, Marsh, etc. For him?

The Angels thought they had Greinke and Teixeira for more than half a season.

I don't see any chance he gets traded to the Angels.
