We could try not assuming the worst. Maybe the reason Ward isn't on the IL, but "taking up a bench spot" is because, well, he can still hit and is by far the best pinch-hitting option the Angels have, in case they have need late in the game.

Imagine this: The Angels are down 5-3, it is the bottom of the 9th with 2 outs, 1 man on and Tyler Wade coming up. Who do you want to pinch-hit, Duffy or Ward?

The point being, if we actually take the Angels at their word (I mean, why would they lie?) then Ward can actually swing the bat, he just can't throw. Remember when Shohei could hit but not throw? Sorta like that.

I've tried to say this many times over the years.

The corollary, though, is all fans are the same. There might be minor regional differences - tendencies that are more common in, say, the inhabitants of Orange County vs. San Francisco. But to some degree, baseball fans are all the same. They (we) all think our team has worse luck than other teams, gets worse calls from umps, has idiotic ownership, has a bad manager, etc etc. And all that reverses when the team is hot.

True, except that at least Shohei DH’d a lot of the games, instead of sitting on the bench for 9 innings.

Granted, they are 3-0 in Ward’s absence.
