Fangraphs: Shohei Ohtani is getting better

Remember when it was his splitter that was unhittable? He now has a slider that is also tough to hit. His curve looks like it's getting better as well, and his high 90's FB is nothing to sneeze at.

It was the best I've ever seen him - a real showcase of craftsmanship. The element I liked the most is that he barely threw his fastball, but occasionally threw it in, as if for shits and giggles. "Here, take a 97-mph heater."

While his ERA is 4.40 due to his second start, his FIP is 1.19.

That slider last night was sick AF! For Ohtani it’s all about his FB command. When he has it then his secondary stuff is just not fair

This is always when I know he's on. He's all "Splitter-curve-splitter-slider" and then he suddenly remembers he can throw 98 and does it just because he can.

Same. I was apprehensive after his last start and that he was facing the same team again. After the top of the inning and the two at bats, I'm nervous that he's gonna have a rough start. After two innings, I just began to be in awe. He looked next level out there. Then two innings in a row of striking out the side and I started wondering if he had a complete game in him. Against the Astros! Such an awesome game last night.

Watching those clips is pure pitching porn - I used to think his splitter was amazing, but his slider was hilariously evil last night - like F-rod's vintage slider, but Ohtani had 3 other pitches just as evil that might be coming.  

Just close your eyes and swing, maybe you'll hit something.
