True- but even without Trout and Rendon and where’s the pitching it’s basically a .500 team to this point.  We could surprise some folks and if we can mess with Astros and A’s I’d be pretty happy.

Im wondering about Mayfield's positioning on that RBI single to the leadoff hitter there. He is playing right near the second base bag...

What type of hit is he really defending there? Straight back up the middle has a good chance of hitting the pitcher or being fielded by him. Over Barria's head probably goes into the outfield. 

I guess the answer is any ball on the ground that gets past Barria, but is that really worth losing any ball hit towards what is the usual shortstop position? I don't know...

I'm not blaming Mayfield. It's a legitimate question about the positioning. I'm not even saying it's wrong. It just seems sub-optimal... even if the charts say the batter hits the ball that way.

I don't think the calls from the dugout are being based on stats. I think it is Maddon going rogue with his field managing, one of the reasons him and Chicago parted ways.
