back when the halos made the playoffs pretty regularly, they had a rally at the Big A one night before the playoffs started. they had smash mouth live and in person, and they sang "All Star." Took my daughter along and we had a fun night. i still have the angel kerchief they handed out that night.

You’d think rock stars and the like would learn from their predecessors on what that hard partying lifestyle leads to. Either way it’s sad and he’s way to young.

So I did some internet digging after reading this and what what I read it was him losing a young child to leukemia that sent him on the a self destructive path. Not excusing the path he lived after that and what is looking like will ultimately cost him his life at a fairly young age but grief and loss hits people different ways.

Smash Mouth Singer’s Son Dies – Billboard

When I saw this news it reminded me why I started this thread. Smash Mouth and a band like UB40 even during their height were enjoyable and fun but ultimately most people realized they weren't exactly music groups that would have long substantial relevance. They didn't have some deep impact on music but they had their window where they found success. I can still turn on a UB40 or Smash Mouth song and enjoy it. An example is this song I listened to after a "tough" highschool breakup:

Oof, that’s rough but yeah, I assumed it was just from the party lifestyle. This just makes it sadder

Yeah he never recovered (maybe not the right word perhaps “dealt with” if you can call it that) losing his infant son to leukemia. He was on one of the celebrity rehab shows and you could tell it destroyed him while he said he would never get past it. Not an excuse but any parent could understand how that’s something some people may not be able to deal with.
