I love the way Naughton has arranged hitters in AAA this year. He's added a whole lot of movement to his delivery, and a couple of mph to make himself a more versatile weapon. 

The Packy Naughton the Angels got from the Reds, was a starter all the way, just not with enough of a quality arsenal to be of impact in the majors. So he retooled some things to make himself into a weapon in the rotation or in relief. 

He could be an effective lefty specialist, or a multi inning mop up pitcher now.

Yan is a top 10 prospect in the system....why in the world would they do that?

Packy's huge problem and knock in prospect reports has been his ability to get strikeouts at the next level. He is at an above-average clip this season with a K/9 of 8.54 (in 2019 he was at 6.90). Although his ERA is 5.23 I wouldn't look too much into that as the league average for the launching grounds of the PCL is around 5.50-5.60 from what I have read on the prospect forum.
