Broken record:

Barria was our best starting pitcher in 2019.  He was the second best in 2020.

I believe his ERA as a starter for three years is better than Heaney.

Best starter in 2018

Dogshit in 2019

Really good in 2020 as a starter.

Still a better era as a starter than Heaney.  Despite being dogshit in 2018.

We got dogshit now and just about every year.  And a guy he has earned his opportunity to be a consistent starter is nowhere to be found!

I wonder what you mean about that "change their spending habits?"

Do you mean in the way the team spends on FA pitchers?

Or do you mean to spend on scouting/development staff?

I'd definitely like to know how this team spends its money on these operations relative to other teams.

Well, I mean, I'm fairly certain we'd not like the answer - but at least we'd know who to yell at.

It's been no secret that Arte will spend money on free agents. Just look at the past with Pujols, Wilson, Hunter, Vladdy, Upton (kinda) and Rendon.

The issue is the amount of finances going towards starting pitching which the Angels have lacked over the years.

The two main biscuits of recent years were Gerrit Cole and Trevor Bauer.

Sure, the risk of paying so much money to those guys who only pitch every 5th day is risky, but at some point a risk has to be made. After all, it's already risky signing free agents on the wrong side of 30 which Arte didn't mind.

2021 ERA-
Cole: 1.81
Bauer: 1.98
So..... They've been worth every damn penny.

What worries me is if we will finally see Arte spend cash on a free agent pitcher this offseason (imagine). And the top guys (Kershaw, Verlander, Scherzer, Lynn, Greinke) will be 34+ years old....
