Intelligent, everyday Americans wait for all the facts to come out before making that judgment. None of us where there. If there was no weapon I'll be the first to say arrest the officer. If there was a weapon in the car then it's justified

These same intelligent, everyday Americans were pinning the 2 riot deaths on Antifa before it was revealed it was a vigilante. If there were a history of Antifa members shooting people dead during riots, that kind of assumption would be justified.

Since there is a long history of the police killing unarmed black people, the assumption that race was a factor is a safe one to make.

Cause and effect.  You can't have law and order without justice.  Where is the justice for Breonna Taylor?  Justice for Elijah McClain?  And many others.

These riots don't start over nothing.  You want them to stop?  How about actually holding cops accountable when they shoot someone?

Investigations are currently ongoing for breonna taylor and the DA said there was no case for homicide in Elijah's case.

There's your justice, because it's not the result you want doesn't make it unjust.

But it's the result YOU want so therefore it's just.

This is an easy game.

Since you seem to have more knowledge about this situation please give us all the specifics on this incident

These riots aren't just a reaction to the Jacob Blake shooting. They're about George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, and an even longer list of black people who were unjustly murdered.

You'll be hard-pressed to find people who actually support the rioiting, just people who understand why it's happening. Even Jacob Blake's mom is troubled by the riots: https://www.cnn.com/2020/08/25/us/who-is-jacob-blake-trnd/index.html

How many are locked up and how many just don't want to take responsibility for their kids?

And don't the ones in jail bear some responsibility for their crimes?

When you lock up half the men the other half get 2 women each... no sane male is gone settle down.

Dude took a gun onto a battlefield. He was asking for it.

Regular city streets are now a "battlefield" apparently, and you wonder why some citizens take up arms? Just think for one second about that.

He did what he had to do to protect his own life when he was attacked.

So police killings are nuanced, but the riots are just excuses to ruin normal people's lives. Cool story, bro.

By the way, you never responded to my description of systemic racism. I'll take that to mean you agree with it, and you learned something new.

I honestly don't know or remember what you're referring to.

There's also a history of police killing more unarmed white people. These things happen.

I'm struggling to understand what this means.

For racism to take place, it requires a human being to display prejudice based off of ethnicity/skin color. "The system" as you so aptly put it, is not a human.

Are you suggesting that black cops pulling over black thugs at crazy rates is not the black cop being racist, but that he is compelled to do so by some all powerful racist "system?" Has skynet taken over and i didn't realize it?

Person-to-person prejudice involves making judgments about someone based on their skin color, gender, religion, etc.

Systemic or institutional racism is the policies, norms, and practices (conscious and unconscious) that result in members of a dominant group contributing to the marginalization of a people group based on their skin color. It's sounds very heady and theoretical, but it's a real concept that has been identified and studied since the 1960s. There's even a Wikipedia page for it: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Institutional_racism

The study I linked to earlier looked at close 100 million traffic stops and found that, according to the statistics, black people and other minorities are objectively more likely to be pulled over than white people in broad daylight, but after the sun goes down, the disparity evens out. Our friend cals brought up a fair point: did they differentiate between white cops, black cops, Hispanic cops, etc.? My point was, the race of the cops doesn't matter if the data reveals that minority drivers are more likely to be pulled over than white drivers, except at night when it's more difficult to see who is driving the vehicle. To me, that indicates a system in which police are trained (consciously or unconsciously) to see minorities with more suspicion than white people. Why would a person from the allegedly marginalized group participate in systemic racism? It's a complicated question with many complicated answers, but that very question has also been studied for decades.

Yep, there's a broader problem of the police using unjustified force against civilians. But it doesn't dismiss the plight that black people face.
