The winner of the Sporting News MLB Player of the Year award has gone on to win the BBWAA MVP award, in their respective league, 12 of the last 13 years. The only exception was in 2016 when Altuve won the SN award and Trout was named AL MVP.

History bodes well for Trout's chances of taking home his 3rd AL MVP award next month!

Yeah, I mean he won the Baseball Digests Player of the Year award, the Hank Aaron Award and now the Sporting News MLB Player of the Year award voting on by the players.

I don't see why he wouldn't win the MVP, especially if Bregman continues to look less than spectacular in post season play.

The writers cast their ballots before the playoffs started, so Bregman gets no boost or detraction for post season play.

I'd been wondering if this was going to be another, "Let's give the MVP to someone other than Trout again" season. But he won MLBPA's top player award, SN Player of the Year. I'd be stunned at this point if he doesn't win MVP.
