Or maybe paying them more than $9/hr results provides no benefit to the owner.

Maybe they should scoop the fucking ice cream themselves then.  Weird how the “market” suddenly doesn’t work anymore when you have to pay the worker to make it worth their time.

If they were Asian they would just have their 8 year old kid do it.

I love all the little tyrants in this dumb ass country that think that have any worthwhile opinion on the value of how someone spends their day making someone else’s business work.

Isn't that exactly what you're doing?

No it’s not what I’m doing.  I think that anyone who goes and does a job for someone else’s business should treated with dignity and appropriately compensated.  That’s to say, they should be paid in way that doesn’t ensure poverty. If the ice cream person can’t do that then they can spend the day in their shop scooping the ice cream themselves.

Were the employees being treated without dignity? Should they set their own pay scales?

The owner has the right to set the wages. The employees then decides if they are willing to work for that scale.

The owner doesn't owe them anything more than that.

We all love in n out here.  It’s a great experience because the workers care about their jobs.  Maybe it’s good for the owner as well when you have a worker who feels like they have some skin in the game.  Just burger flippers tho.  Fuck them amirite ? Outrageous they’re treated with respect.

A shitload of people work at McDonald's and Burger King.

They must be ok with it.

The labor/capital relationship in this country is so fucking tilted the last 40 years that these “owners” seriously think that some wrong is being done to them because finally and temporarily people have the slightest leverage against them.  Truly indecent.

Well, that leverage resulted in nobody having a job at the ice cream shop

Congrats.

Wasn't bragging at all. Just stating a fact.

Supply and demand.

You obviously have some issue that people aren’t completely held hostage to these shit jobs and fuck head owners that think they shouldn’t pay them anything.  You said it.  The worker has the right to decline to work if the pay isn’t sufficient.  Good.  Raise the pay.  Stop fucking crying on social media and get people back in your shop.  Other wise fuck off.  Do it yourself or close up.

And considering they can't get enough people to keep their doors open.  What does that tell you about their scale?

That if they go above it, it isn't worth keeping the doors open.

It's a fairly simple concept.
