Any word on his defense? I almost hope it sucks because 'Shawn Knowles is fun with the leading apostrophe.

He looked good. Topped out at 95, threw about 6-7 pitches to the first batter then got 2 quick outs.

Also Billy Eppler was at the SL Bees game tonight. Not sure if he was looking at any specific players or seeing how Eric Chavez manages a game but was there fwiw.

Yes he does, quite a bit actually. He respects the reports he gets from his scouts, but before finalizing anything, he likes to get his eyes on them. He does this with top prospects ahead of the draft and minor leaguers before promotion.

But my guess is, this was a multi-purpose trip. He wanted to see his new acquisition in Buttrell, watch Ward one more time before deciding whether to promote him or not, and also see how Chavez handles himself during the game.

Tyler Higgins has blossomed for the M's AAA team, after spending 2.5 seasons in AA.    Current ERA is around 1.50, and WHIP is around 1.00, granted in just 24 innings.   That's a lot more than I thought we'd get for Johnson just a month ago.

Not a bad return for two months of a backup catcher. 

But this still probably only the second most lopsided trade with Houston is recent history. Sending them Hank Conger in return for Tropeano and Perez was a pretty big win for this franchise.
