Las Vegas Shooting

my buddy that sits next to me just rolled in. he gave us a recount of what happened and then as others trickled in re-told the story for them. so if anyone is curious about a first hand recount, this post will probably blow your mind.

so they are kind of middle front. he said everyone heard the gunfire break out, but initially himself and others thought it was end of the night fireworks....or something show related. he sounded like he was paralyzed looking around and saw the flash from the shooter up in the room (for all you conspiracy theorist, my buddy said he thought it was the 20th floor or so, but in the moment, ya know). his chick was telling him to get down and as he realized what's going on he jumped down, but was still confused. he said when it hit him is they are all laying down and the dude next to him got shot in the chest at the same time he got grazed in the leg. i wish he could tell it instead of writing it because it sounded like a war zone. he said bullets were just raining down and there were two sounds, those that hit the ground and those that hit bodies. everyone seemed to realize what was going on by the time the shooters first clip emptied and as they were down he told his chick there is a 50/50 chance of getting shot laying there or running and that they should run.......people laying down were still getting tagged like the dude next to him, so sitting prone is pretty pointless.

so they take off running during the reload phase and gunfire kicks back up and they are just running and hopping over people while people are getting tagged in his view running through the crowd....picture a war movie when they run to safety and people around them are just dropping or bullets are whizzing by. he said luckily they didn't lay there or try to hide as dead people and people hit were being dragged to safety and it was brutal.

one thing to consider and makes sense when he talks is, while he saw the shooter in the room, no one there knows if he is the only one so people are simply running but not sure where to run to. at the same time the casinos were in the same boat and on lock down, so they can't exactly run into a safe place. they kind of duck into a parking structure and he says the sounds of gunfire were sounding distant as they ran away and he felt safer, but again unsure if there are other shooters and the majority of people fleeing think the gunman is on the ground. he runs into the intersection and flags a cab to take them out to his mothers house whom just moved out there.

it sounded like a shitload of running and a shitload of gunfire. he said the entrance and exit was really thin for people to escape. luckily he wasn't in his vip area because it was literally one flight of steps and as gunfire was raining down people are kind of single file moving to escape.

he seems to be cool mentally, like most of us dudes we compartmentalize and realize it can happen at any point in life. his chick is pretty fucked up mentally.

wild shit to hear a firsthand recount there in the line of fire.

insane.

there are live videos coming out now. i wont link them, but they aren't hard to find. it was a war zone.

one video is a guy walking around checking people's pulse trying to help, just a bunch of dead young people.

another is a guy filming in the middle of it all, and everyone is grouped around people applying pressure. you can see a girl, she must have been hit the chest. clearly in shock, eyes rolling back.

just devastating. and at a f*cking normal show. normal vegas weekend. lives ruined. evil.

Also, if mental illness is an issue here (it sure seems it will be in some way): all the people that dismiss this as being a mental health issue rather than a firearms issue can go straight to hell. It's both.

I agree. The mentally ill should not have guns, period, and nobody should have these kinds of weapons.

It's time (past time, actually) for a bipartisan approach to this issue. This cannot go on.

I found this a bit odd yesterday.

"...did this person get radicalized unbeknownst to us? And we want to identify that source."

What's odd about that given what we know about the kind of surveillance that is conducted in the hopes of identifying terror threats?

Good post, Brandon.

I hung out with my lady friend last night for a bit. She went back to work, but shes still in shock...i told her to take some time off, but she said she wants to work to keep her mind busy.

She was filming the concert from the VIP. She gave the video to her friends BF, and he gave it to the media. She said its "the main one they keep playing", but i didnt want to ask her to show it to me.

Two people in their group got shot, didnt ask her any more details.

A guy from OCSD got his wife out, went back to help out. He scooped up a lady and started carrying her out. She took a round to the head, went through into his stomach. Hes stable but still in the hospital.

Reading the stories of the victims is pretty heartbreaking (as it always is).

Cant help but keep thinking about that dumb bitch that said no sympathy, because theyre probably republicans.

yeah, just wild recounts from all over. i guess most of those killed were californians and people we know....or six degrees of separation, etc.

my buddy has been trying to work but people were coming up nonstop for a recount. it was obviously longer and i left a bit out just for the sake of brevity. but he also mentioned how a friend there with them got hit in his back pocket or or on the side but the bullet went through clean and didn't hit the body. between shit like that and and him saying how the bullets were whizzing by so close it's a trip to think the percentages or improbability he wasn't hit.

a weird thing i asked because i'm super huge into human psychology is if he thought he was going to and delved a bit into his thought process....i could tell the way he told his story he dealt with it and it wouldn't cause ptsd or make him uncomfortable. he said he never thought he would die, but when he made a decision to run with his chick he 100% expected to get hit and was just hoping it wouldn't be a fatal shot like he saw next to him. obviously adrenaline kicks in and us men have a knack of when something like this happens we quickly think of the most efficient escape and just go.....no emotional thoughts or pondering what to do, just pick a path quickly that makes sense and survival mode kicks in.

his chick is pretty fucked up. she hasn't gone back to work yet and he says they are going to a therapist on tuesday, but she said today she can't wait until then. she's having weird ass thoughts of wishing she did more, wishing she was hit so that someone else wasn't, guilt, etc. just wild the trauma.

Survivors guilt is a very real thing.

I talked with my lady friend about that last night, without using the actual term. Gonna see if i can set her up with one of our department psychs, someone who specializes in this kind of thing.

Gonna be a long process for all involved. Total rollercoaster.

I've become pretty desensitized to these shootings, but for some reason this one hit me really hard.

My best friend's cousin was actually shot in the head, and somehow survived. He's in the hospital right now obviously.

Going back to my earlier wacky theory (about suicide), in my experience, people almost never leave suicide notes. It happens, but its very rare.

If this guy didnt leave some statement, not suicide but "i hate the world because X", then it sounds like he had no reason, but went out of his way, snd wanted to die.

I wonder if confidentiality laws would bar a doctor from being able to contact authorities?

true story.

my ex was a therapist in this specific field and said the same thing....people that really want to kill themselves just do it, people that make signs or leave notes or clues just want the attention.

I can remember off the top of my head less than 5....and i go to a suicide, or someone else on my shift does, at least once a week.

One always stayed with me. Teenage girl hung herself, wrote the note on her white t shirt with a marker...dont remember at all what it said, but that ones always stayed with me. Bad scene, mom screaming trying to take her down when my partner and i got there. Me and this guy are usually pretty immune to emotions on stuff, but we were both kind of messed up from that one.

But yeah, its rare. We get tons of people who text or post on social media, and we go and 5150 them. They never (or at least very rarely) actually make the attempt.

It's been pretty wild seeing the updates on my fb. I didn't know him super well personally, I go over to the families' place for Christmas on occasion.

It's insane that everywhere I look right now, whether it's here or friends and family or something else, i'm seeing people that know someone who was hurt or killed.

Just a damn tragedy all around.
