Did a hike today, and probably shouldn't have.  Hurt my back a few weeks back, and have been go go going.  And it finally caught up to me.  Was going to do Cucamonga Peak.  But after getting to Icehouse Canyon Saddle, my back was saying no to that.  So pivotted and did a peak I never done before.  Timber Mountain.  It's only 0.89 hiking miles from Icehouse Canyon Saddle, but the elevation gain is 750 feet.  Oh, and I saw some Southern Calolfornia fall foliage in one small section of the hike.

Overall, I highly recommend this if you are in the Laughlin area.  It's a short drive from Laughlin.  A bit off road, but well maintained and a car could make it in dry conditions.  The hike is short, under 1/4 mile, on a gravely river wash.  But it doesn't really change in altitude much, unless you explore the hills.  A good number of petroglyphs can be seen from the wash.  But there are some higher up, that are equally as impressive.

Where I park to walk I saw 2 skunks. It's 5:00 am and the lighting is poor. I stood still and one came really close before turning around. Poor picture quality due to the light.

I think the answer is clear . . . You need to spend major bucks on a quality camera for your walks. Tell you wife I’ve given you permission, in case she gives you crap about it.

Skunks are really beautiful clean creatures.  Ran into one on a hike a few months back.  Just amazing as long as you don't piss them off.

Tent, Sleeping Bag, Fishing Pole, Gold Pan, Shovel.  And lots of alcohol and you'd be set.  Ok, I'd be set.

Octoberfest in Big Bear.  Octoberfest was hopping.  Even with the rain.  The City of Big Bear also has their shit together, in that they have free trolley's running all around the city to get around in.

They got some color going on around town.  Campground in the morning.  20221022_084836.jpg

Nothing like waking up in the pines.  Bad news is, it's pinecone season.  So you had bombs dropping off the trees after a rain.  Luckily none of our cars or tents got hit.

20221022_084752.jpg

No snow at all at Snow Summit yet.

20221022_095741.jpg

Nice color change along the main drag while I waited for the trolley.

The National Park Service wants humans to stop licking this toad

Damn NPS taking away all the fun of being in nature.

Quote

"As we say with most things you come across in a national park, whether it be a banana slug, unfamiliar mushroom, or a large toad with glowing eyes in the dead of night, please refrain from licking," the agency wrote on Facebook this past week.

is that a falcon or a hawk? we've got a red tail hawk family that have nested on our campus for over three decades.

Don't know which he was.  He was pretty big though.  He didn't care that I walked by either.  Got maybe 20 feet of him.
