There was one presidential candidate who wanted to earmark a fixed percentage of federal revenue to be spent on the military, whether there was any worthwhile project or not, and to add 100,000 troops to the military. Obviously not a lot of restraint in that philosophy. The armed forces seem to be the one sacred cow in the federal budget. I would more readily support a funding increase if a significant part the money were going toward giving servicemen and women a more appropriate wage instead of going primarily for every megabuck gadget that catches some general's or admiral's eye.
