Mike Trout visits Hud and Phys in 2009

Hudler recommended Trout buy a condo in Arizona to hold him over for 5 to 6 years getting ready in the minors.

He was drafted as a compensation pick for losing Teixeira to free agency. Wondering if Grichuk would of still been drafted over Trout if there wasn't a compensation pick?

Didn't realize this, if true it makes me feel a whole lot better about the Teixeira rental.  We had a great team that year, I'm still bitter he walked away.

It was actually the K-rod compensation. He was the earlier pick and we were never going to resign him anyways, Teixeira we at least tried.

"It has been subsequently documented in interviews with Eddie Bane that the Angels had their sites squarely set on Trout all the way and took Grichuk ahead of him to assist in leveraging his asking price in case he asked them what they believed him to be worth. It turned out he was an easy sign. The Angels had the #25 pick and right after selecting Grichuk they selected Trout with that pick. This pick was awarded to them because the Yankees had signed Mark Teixeira. If the Angels had re-signed K-Rod and Teix, the Mets or Yankees surely would have drafted Trout."

Trout is the result of letting K-Rod go. I never heard the Mets were high on Trout, but the Yankees did.

NO, was always going to be the true target in the draft.

I just wonder why so many teams passed on Trout in the 2009 draft. Their Scouts blew it big time.

Whats crazy is that signing either krod or tex would have been a good move, and we would have all been happy. Got lucky as hell.

I believe the knock on Trout was that his numbers were probably inflated playing against lesser competition.

Man if he was like Sizemore or Rowand we wouldn't have a "Trout is the worst defensive CFer" thread.  Unfortunately he didn't turn out to be like those two and now we have to settle for the player he is.

I went to this game. Walked through the front entrance. Saw a middle aged woman wearing a Trout jersey, standing next to a young man. None of the hundreds of people walking in (including myself) had any idea we were walking right next to the second coming of Willie Mays.
