Way too many teams could beat a potential Angels offer. It's a nice thought, but we'd have to be willing to offer pretty much the farm to have a shot and to be honest, he really seems like he may not be as good as he first looked. And he's kind of a doofus.

The only 'good' starter we can acquire right now would be someone akin to Jason Vargas, Scott Feldman, Miguel Gonzales, Matt Andriese, JA Happ, Francisco Liriano, and it'd have to cost something that wouldn't kill the farm or the everyday team - guys like Perez, Cron, Marte, Cowart, Meyer, Middleton, Johnson.

Matt Harvey could have been the Angels’ problem.

In 2007 they drafted Harvey in the third round. He threw hand grenades for his Connecticut high school team, and the fact that he’d committed to North Carolina didn’t faze Eddie Bane, the scouting director. Three years before, Bane had signed Nick Adenhart, who also was the top prep pitcher in the nation and also had committed to the Tar Heels. Adenhart was coming off an elbow injury, but the Angels still picked him in the 14th round and gave him $710,000 in persuasion money.

Harvey, then as now a Scott Boras client, wanted $1 million. Arte Moreno, the Angels owner, wouldn’t budge.

Not to mention he was sort of shit on in his previous start -- the Mets decided to pitch him on short rest and nobody bothered to tell him..   Dude supposedly had a hard core throwing session the day before and then subsequently got rocked...

He's still a slapdick though...

Harvey — who makes $5.1 million and is 2-2 with a 5.14 ERA this season — rolled up on the velvet rope club “with his boys” at about 1 a.m. and settled into a private table, the sources said.

The star pitcher threw back a triple play of top-shelf booze, including Armand de Brignac “Ace of Spades” Champagne, Don Julio 1942 tequila and Belvedere vodka, witnesses said.

Harvey and his entourage kept to themselves until leaving the West 17th Street club, sources said.
