Jon Lester - what is going on with him??

I will admit I did not know about his condition until the NLCS, but what the hell???

He can't make a pickoff move, he can't throw over to first, he can't field the ball....

 

What the hell?  I was frigging amazed watching that last night.

He hasn't even attempted a pickoff move since July.

Even on the one comebacker, he had to underhand the throw to 1B although a little ways from 1B.

Sounds like the catcher who can't make the throw to the pitcher in Major League 2.

So what does Jon Lester do during the first week of spring training during PFP (pitcher fielding practice) ?  Sit on this thumb in the dugout?

One of the announcers in the NLCS described it like a golfer having the yips.

it was unbelievable to me that he never left the mound on that swinging bunt during game 7.

When Greg Maddux was in Atlanta he never liked pitching to Javy Lopez so they always had to get him a personal catcher like Charlie O'Brien. I could see Lester being this way with Contreras and the brass going out to get him a veteran. It seemed to work out ok for Maddux. The whole throwing to bases thing seems like the kind of thing a proud professional and grown man would work to overcome.

Fun fact: He shot career FT's at .562.  Had he averaged .800 he'd have scored 3066 more points and would have ended up 5th on the all time scoring list, behind Kareem, Mailman, Kobe & MJ but passing Wilt and Nowitzki.

The way people talk shit about Lester, it's as if he's not good. Yeah, he has issues. He is still one of the best pitchers going around though.

Quite frankly, I was amazed that in the Dodgers-Cubs series, the Dodgers didn't run on him EVERY TIME a guy got on first base.
