Hamilton 0-8 Needs to Drop Down The Bat Weight

Recommended Posts

Maybe the fences should be moved in.

Wait, we have a bunch of fly ball pitchers.

Never mind.

Actually with all the power hitters on the team, moving the fences in and getting some groundball guys NOT stocking up on Joe Blanton style home run pitchers might not have been a bad idea.

With a right hander up the 2nd baseman covers on a steal leaving the right side open. Most teams use a shift on Hamilton to start with so the 2nd baseman would stay in place and the SS would cover on a steal playing close to the bag. That does not either help Trout's running game or keep them out of a double play. Hamilton in the 2nd spot is not going to change the way they pitch to him, already they are throwing faux pitchouts and he swings at them.

The catcher would still have to make a perfect throw 'over' Hamilton with Trout's kind of speed, and that wouldn't be easy considering Hamilton's size.  And it's not like Hamilton is a dead pull hitter.  The guy hits to all fields when he's on.  All I'm saying is give it a try to see if it could get Trout and Hamilton out of their slumps.

Red, what makes you think bat wieght is Hamilton's problem? If you were to look at how many times he swings out of zone you might understand it has nothing to do with his swing mechanics or bat speed, it has to do with having no pitch recognition.

You go by the numbers but I go by what I see. It's the type of hitter involved as the reason. He's lead arm extension from the wrists. A-Gone is lead arm extension from the hips. I contrast the 2 with both taking a heavy bat weight with them to the plate. A-Gone controls it through the zone as it seems to get away from Hamilton. Drop the weight and he'd have better control, that's the bottom line.  Bat speed's not the issue with Hamilton, he has it all in the world, it just needs calibration with the lumber better, and I think that might happen as the season goes along.

Marine layer means nothing. Opposing teams haven't had any issues hitting the ball out this year.

Disagree.  Look at Pujols as to how he's had to adjust with it from the Ohio Valley, now look at Hamilton.  Both benefited from hitting within lighter (hot) air.  I say it does effect, apparenlty until summer nears, too.  It was that way with Salmon throughout his career.  Why not drop the bat weight in the meantime if the case?

Sorry Red but the bat weight argument holds no weight. The numbers I posted is the numbers you see game after game, he is just not picking up the ball and making good decisions from the batters box. His O-Swing is 20% greater than his numbers when he was a feared hitter. That is a discipline problem, not an arm extension or bat weight problem.

You mean you were serious about the marine layer stuff?
