True enough. But they work together, no? And when we say "government," who do we mean? Who benefits?

Oligarchy, man, oligarchy.

We agree on this.

We just disagree on the best course of action to try and solve it.

Dude, LOL - I answered your question. I even gave you that they don't necessarily directly profit from chronic illness.

And I'm sure you're right, that there is no corruption in the medical business. My bad.

Did you even read what I wrote before commenting?

"There are shady people in EVERY business, so it is again, unfair to make that blanket statement."

Insurance companies work on a 5% margin.  It isn't about making as much money as possible as much as it is about not losing money.  That wouldn't change in a socialized system.  When the government inevitably underestimates how much it costs and how inefficient they are at the process they will have to borrow money from China, forcing the tax payers to pay interest on the loan

Then the government will increase taxes and expand them to other classes (like the middle and lower class) to pay for the losses.

See what Bernie and all of his other socialist/democrat buddies do is they convince everyone that they will pay for their programs by only taxing the rich, knowing full well they can't fund it that way.  They wait until it passes because the public supports it, then a year or two later they amend the bill to tax everyone else in order to pay for it.

Also, health insurance companies work on a 5% margin... even if the government works on no margin at all, do you think they are as efficient?  I say the inefficiencies of the government is far more than 5%.

You are spinning in circles with these people, to them everyone with money is corrupt and the pot smoking liberals will spend their money correctly.

The government can run on a loss forever.

I think the best course of action is the one that is consistent with promoting freedom.

That's pretty vague. And while I agree with you in principle, I think we have to add "at what cost."

Also, where do you draw the line? You have kids, right? I assume that you don't allow them complete and utter freedom?

At any cost. There's nothing more valuable than freedom.

I allow them the freedom to be who they want to be, but yes I make them eat their vegetables

At ANY cost? And more valuable than everything, even life itself? Dude, you've watched Braveheart one too many times.

So you do "regulate" your children's freedom.

Interesting morning: A young client came in today (wheelchair bound) with her father. They are citizens of Switzerland, and she has chronic Lyme Disease. They could not find anyone to help them back in Europe. The one doctor who tried to help her ordered IV Zithromax, but it was unavailable in Switzerland. They then called here to see if they could order it, and have it shipped to Switzerland. We tried, but it was refused at Swiss customs because "Zithromax is not an approved drug in Switzerland"

So they have to fly here for treatment with a drug that has been around for a long time.
