Politics or Racism?

Recommended Posts

I remember after Obama was elected, hearing about our nigger-in-chief and seeing all the racist caricatures of him. I remember idiotic rednecks saying "racism is over, we elected a black guy!" And then there are people like wopphil talking about how divisive Obama has been, and I just don't see it. What, particularly, has he done that has been so divisive?

I get that republicans would hate Obama no matter what just because he's a democrat (just like democrats would hate a republican president). I just see an extra element of hatred for him because he's black.

Everybody is a racist to some degree.

But to suggest that congress resists Obama's ideas simply because he's black is ludicrous.

I agree that this article is stupid in the implication that racism is the only reason or even the main reason for blocking a nomination. It probably doesn't even have anything to do with this battle. If the democratic president was white we'd be having the same battle.

You're right, democrats are cultivating a permanent dependency class.

I'm not a fit.

no you are right but I bet you are a great fit for that fat old angry white guy in a scooter blocking everyone's way at the supermarket who needs to just die already.

Congress gets away with their actions toward the president because he's black.

Every registered republican I've ever known was racist. They'd never admit it but I saw countless examples in the christian churches. Just the other day a former church friend was talking about how half the black population is on welfare because they're lazy. Guess it was the pastors theme of that day. Along with flat taxes being what jesus would do.

IMO the KKK ditched the robes but kept and expanded their churches.

To be fair, the Democratic party was actually the party of choice for the clan.  Much has changed to be sure.  Sort of fascinating and incredible.  I think we're potentially in the midst of a similar complete realignment of the republican party now (meaning that the democrats many decades ago went through a total realignment themselves and fundamentally changed)

I think its possible for one to say Obama is divisive without any kind of racist opinion being part of it.  All of the executive actions are pretty controversial.  Obviously we could go back and forth about those executive orders being necessary.  Im just playing devils advocate here.

A lot of people forget that, rhat the dems used to be more of rhe "oppression party" and the republicans the opposite. But like you said, over time they changed.

Its unfortunate that we truly only have a 2 party system. Independants stand no chance. Really the same for libertarians, socialists, or any other different idea.

As crazy as jesse ventura is, he made a good point years ago. He said we feel superior becausw we have a 2 party system. Thats only one more than soviet russia.

Liberals love to call people racists. It makes them feel morally superior. You can't even make an observation about race without some on the left calling you a racist.

There is a difference between being a racist (i.e., believing people other other races are inferior to you) and making generalizations about groups of people. For example, we can all agree that as a group, Asians suck at driving. But that doesn't mean we believe we are superior to Asians (well, I guess we are on the roads).

Americans are extremely tolerant compared to other peoples across the world.

I actually agree with you on this, wopphil - it is the worst part of modern liberalism and exemplified by the "SJW" movement on college campuses and people who don't grow out of that mentality. They have expanded the word "racism" to mean pretty much anything a white person (especially straight males) says or does, which in my view causes more harm than good.

Now of course a SJW would say that you (assuming you are white) and I have "white fragility" or "white defensiveness." It is a fascist and formulaic ideology, pure and simple.

phil, you haven't lived in Texas yet, or at least I don't think you have. I went to some guys superbowl party I play golf with and this lady was rocking her 4 yr. old in her lap saying how much she hates niggers.  Not sure if that was racist or I was just being too liberal.

Now MT will say I choose to live in Texas and I am making fun of them.  Most people I really hang out with are transplants like me.  There are lots of jobs and a good housing market.  I miss the days of kicking back on the beach getting a waft of doobie in the air and watching all the bikinis go by but apart from that there is a big country out there that is racist and not just libs making it up.

My family and I got up and left the super bowl party.  I was not invited to go play golf with them the next time.
