I would assume the only thing that is keeping Bonds away from the game is Bonds reputation from when he played. When I say reputation I don't mean as a juicer more of his reputation of being an asshole in the clubhouse.

Conspiracy alert: Loria hired Bonds to allow him to train all summer with hitters in batting practice. Bonds signs a MLB contract in September with the Marlins, serving as a pinch hitter, resetting his HOF eligibility dates and giving him a chance to extend his window for consideration. Also lets him go out of baseball on 'his terms' and gives him chance to redeem himself and stave off ARod's quest to surpass him on HR list.
