We should be doing what we can to minimize our oil usage shouldn't we?  The Canadian pipeline was only going to do a tiny part to stop us from using middle eastern oil.

What does it have to do with existing pipelines?

Don't you think we should be working hardest on finding an alternative first?

Also, to say we don't need more pipelines is silly talk.  You should see how many oil trucks there are out here.  This is because we have no pipelines in our area.  We use up a solid percentage of the oil we pull out of the ground just to get it to the refinery.

We should be working harder on finding an alternative, I agree.  That doesn't mean we should build another pipeline.

You talk about it creating jobs.  Thousands of people lost their jobs or had their income significantly impacted by the deepwater horizon spill.  Not worth the risk especially since we should be using significantly less oil in the next 20 years.

Thousands of those people were were on that very job.  Just because one company was irresponsible doesn't mean the whole system is bad.  We have the oil, we should use it or at least pull it out of the ground to have it.

That shouldn't make one difference to whether we find an alternative (which we should but our politicians are bought and paid for).

It is wasteful to not use pipelines when you have the opportunity to do so.  My biggest concern is the personal property rights part.  Every land owner should be ok with having it on their land and the contract should be made so the landowner is not responsible for any mishaps.

You might want to consider that an alternative isn't possible now or, isn't worth it now. There are some thing that can't just happen because we want them to. Let's put it this way. Japan, most parts of Europe, and China are full of smart people and they have no oil. Don't you think they'd have come up with an alternative by now if it was feasible?

This is like the college kids at Yale or Missouri. They pretend that something is a problem to have an outlet for their self-righteousness, a cause. The pipeline is not a problem in any way, but people need to feel good about doing something.

Remember my criteria for liberal action. Here's three of them.

1. It can't be a real problem (remember that one spill a few years ago? global warming!!!).

2. It can't require any sacrifice. ALL of the people complaining don't feel they'd lose a dime.

3. It has to have the right villains (oil) and heroes (Hollywood liberals and other cool people). .
