Not sure if anyone listens to Mark in the Morning on The Sound, but they have a segment where the disect classic songs track by track and then put it all together. usually they are pretty cool, but this week, they dissected The Who's Wont Get Fooled Again and it is amazing.

To hear Keith Moon's drumming by itself, Entwistle's bass tracks solo then added to the drums etc. just shows what a powerful and talented band they were. Take 15 minutes and listen.

Seeing "The Kids Are Alright" was a revelation for me. 

 

In a BBC documentary, I think it was Pete Townshend who said Keith Moon's drumming was almost like a vocal track. Couldn't agree more. Dude knew little about technique because he flat out created his own. Sloppy and perfect at once.

I read a book about The Who 30 years ago.  It was said that the reason Moon didn't have more solos is that his drumming was basically solos all of the time.  Dr. Jimmy is one i can think of, I know there are a few more.

When they combined Roger's vocals and Moon's drums I was blown away. The way Keith used his ridiculous and raw fills to accompany the vocals was amazing.

was never a fan of the who, though in high school my friends and i always laughed when 'squeeze box' came on the radio.

 

i think i'll give this link a listen when i get some time this weekend and see what's up. may change my mind about them.
