It forces the cutoff man to make a decision. Percentage play by him. Let the ball through and maybe get the out or take the sure thing and let the run score.

So the decision was 100% let a run score, or give the defense a chance to prevent the run from scoring.

Sounds like both teams made a mistake on that play.

If the Angels enter the Texas series back 2 games, then go 3-1 it will force a game 163 (a fifth consecutive game) that the Angels would have to win.
