Gameday Thread: Lineup Shuffle vs. A's 4/30

dude street was garbage lol. Example number 1785993 why saves are a trash stat.

this team is NOTHING without trout

While I agree that a 'save' in and of itself is a pretty meaningless stat, there is something to be said about the ability to be the last guy out of the pen and work without a net.

Everyone in our pen works without backup except Street and the bottom line is that he got the job done.  He didn't have good stuff yet we still won the game.  Last year, that was a loss.

It means something to be a closer, and it means something to get the final out.

ITA. Perhaps one of the differences between Street and someone like, say, Frieri, is that when he creates a jam -- and that doesn't happen particularly often -- he's generally able to salvage it eventually. He's able to calmly stay in there and work until he does what he needs to do. Yesterday he was not on and they won by the saving grace of Mike Trout, but Street's record overall shows that he's able to get the job done.

Street created a bigger mess today than he was left with.

If you take away the two runners Street inherited, he really didn't do all that bad. Yeah he gave up some hits, but he had to be a bit more precise, keeping the ball more around the plate than usual. Coming in with RISP and no outs, the A's took advantage of his pitches they could handle.

Look at the box score, only 1 earned run. No other pitcher in our bullpen would I have rather had out there given the situation once the A's started getting some runs back.

Big help from his defense too, but hey its a team sport and that's what they're there for. Not like he gave up a 3 run bomb.

Every reliever has an off day occasionally. That's why we don't base evaluations on just one game.

Over the course of the year, Street and Pestano will be fine. I have every confidence that they will succeed over the long haul

Pobody's nerfect.
