It's hard for me to associate Erick Aybar with the term "team leader". I've just seen too many mistakes from lackadaisical play.

Aybar has more baseball smarts in his pinky finger than anyone here and does a great job of leadership on the infield. Highest combined (offense/defense) WAR value of anyshortstop last season. He will progress more into a leadership role as he matures as a player. Hamilton and Pujols need to take on the leadership role for the team. I think Weaver shows great leadership as a pitcher for the Angels.

I definitely think Aybar can.  He seems to have chemistry with almost everyone in the clubhouse.

 

People giving him shit for his sometimes spastic play are funny considering Torii's baserunning.  Being a leader doesn't mean you are the best player in baseball.  Just need to be positive, strong willed and energetic.
