Gas Prices

I remember gas at our neighborhood Sunoco station in Philadelphia at 29 cents a gallon. It was full service and you would get some silverware or drink glasses for a fill-up. They would also check your oil and water if asked. Needed air in the tires? They would gladly fill it.

Man, what universe was I living in?!

Yes, I'm old.

Remember when they would add a quart of oil if you were low?

Fun fact.  Oregon and New Jersey gas stations are all full service.  Although they are trying to repeal those laws.

This is one expert. I think it's dubious that the Keystone cancellation directly affected gas prices, but I'm sure the gas companies were eager to use it as a reason to artificially increase gas prices.

But James Glynn, a senior research scholar at Columbia University's Center on Global Energy Policy, said the Keystone pipeline—even if operational—likely wouldn't have had an impact on the global energy markets.

"There is little evidence to back up the argument that Keystone XL would have averted some of this price spike," Glynn told Newsweek. "The Keystone pipeline capacity is less than one-tenth of Russian oil exports."

"Even if Keystone XL was filled with fully additional Canadian export capacity, which would have been an unlikely scenario, it would not balance the global oil markets where the price of oil is set through a global arbitrage of the last marginal available barrel," Glynn continued.

I remember when you use to be able to go to picture shows for a nickel.

Did you wait in that line?

Nope, I drove by it on another errand and later checked a thread on Facebook about it.

It was quite dangerous, actually, as the line went out onto the street and down a busy block and across a large intersection (Cherry and Willow). People were trying to merge into the right lane for another block or so farther down Willow so they could get a place in line. People who were just driving and wanting to make a right turn at Cherry had to get out of that line or sit there for several minutes. No police around of course.

I don't wait in lines like that. Never.

The local Native American gas station next to their casino had their gas at $4.89 this morning.

This may be a dumb question, but are they subjected to the same gas taxes as other stations if the station is on Native American land?  I’m just wondering because that is a big price difference from most others.

Looks like the answer is no:
