As long as he's in the Majors, Garrett Richards is down for whatever. He'll come out of the bullpen late in games to hold leads, he'll pitch multiple innings in mop-up duty as a long reliever or, in a perfect world, he'll work every five days as a starting pitcher. He just hopes the Angels pick one.

What an enormous bust. 3 years ago everybody was talking about him having potential to be a solid #3 pitcher, and now he can't even beat out Joe Blanton for the #5 spot.

That's not true at all. He's not a bust yet. He's still relatively young. The Angels signed Blanton for 2/15 M. With that type of contract, Richards is not going to be given a chance to beat out Blanton at the start of this year.

How do you know that? Can you predict the future? What I said probably has more truth to it than what you said. What's more likely to happen..Richards doesn't pan out and at best becomes a solid #5 or, out of nowhere he starts to show some command of his pitches and becomes a top of the rotation pitcher?

Richards is still on the cusp of being a major league pitcher. He is lacking consistency. His stuff is good. He needs to throw strikes. He is far from being a bust.

im rooting for the guy, he was decent last season and had a few games where he was really good.

control will be big...i remember games last season where he was nearing 80-90 pitches by the 5th inning. staying away from long counts should help him out
