  1. I might have missed it, but does anyone know why 2nd round draft pick, Brandon Marsh, is showing on the 60 day DL in AZL?
  2. It looks like we have 9 players from the Dominican Republic/Venezuela on the roster this year. Don't know anything about them but this seems to be a step forward for the organization.
  3. Wouldn't it be the Yankees and not the Halos that would get the $500,000 in salary relief?
  4. No surprise here. It only emphasizes the importance of developing and keeping your own talent.
  5. Guess you'll just need to open KOLEVILLE
  6. Percy could be a solid addition to the organization. He was very competitive and a successful closer, someone who would be respected. Personally, I would like to see him made the MLB bullpen coach this year. I think we would see an immediate mindset change down there. Soliz could be reassigned. If Percy prefers to be a pitching coach now, give him the open 66ers position. He would be a good fit with the young guys, while getting professional coaching experience.
  7. I have a lot of respect for the Angel players and management that give back so much to the community. They have a blessed life economically and for them to give back to those less fortunate is a great thing to see. What they do in real life off the field is more important than anything they do on the field.
  8. Late bloomers? possibly but doubtful. The bigger issue is that we don't have enough of an international presence to sign young higher upside players, thus might as well get something for your slot money. Kinda sad
  9. Good series of articles. Informative and interesting.
  10. For whatever reason, Cron, IMHO, is under appreciated by many on this board. He is a run producer. Since turning pro he has 215 RBI in 240 games. That is pretty good. Granted, he hasn't shown the consistent power we might like to see or maybe drawn the number of walks, but he has driven in a bunch of runs and that is what you want from a MOTO bat. It should be interesting to see if his power starts developing this year and next.
  11. Our farm system is not very deep but Cron deserves to go to the Futures game. He is hitting close to .300 and last year he led all MILB in RBI. Thats not bad no matter how weak the overall system.
  12. I agree, Cowgill adds very little. Johnson at least had some upside that could've been used to obtain a low level pitcher with potential. We already have too many AAA type outfielders .
  13. Hopefully he will adjust before it messes with his confidence too much. Need to remember he is still very young for this level. I'm wondering if the batting coach there has him trying something different.
  14. Well deserved. If he can keep putting up these solid numbers I suspect they'll move him up to AA by summer.
  15. Harris is probably getting the start since Milone is a left hand pitcher and Romine bats left. Also Blanton is a flyball pitcher so I guess they don't see the need for stronger infield defense tonight. That being said, this is why you have Romine on the roster. He is a natural SS. Excellent defender. He is not going to hit much but neither will Harris. In theory we have a bunch of guys that can do that. If Romine isn't going to play in this situation, when will he?
  16. Who will be the backup infielder? 1B is covered but I don't see a reserve that can cover 2nd, 3rd or short. Am I missing something?
  17. The starting pitching should be ok. Middle of the pack, probably. The issue is the BP. This team was built to be offensive (literally and unfortunately, figuratively). Most nights it will score runs. In that regard we should be fine with the SP keeping us in the game. The problem is we don't have any shutdown reliever(s) at this point. We have some potential but thus far no one is stepping up. We don't have complete game type pitchers so the BP is critical.
  18. Here's a crazy idea. If the plan is to make Snyder the primary backup catcher, why not carry Conger also. He is better than any other left hand hitting option we have off the bench. We don't really need another reserve outfielder or infielder. Conger can swing the bat as a pinch hitter or occassional DH, and still catch some. He could be working on his throwing in pregame workouts and getting his confidence back up. All the while he could be helping the big club. I know he has an option left, but if he isn't in the long range plans, use him offensively some and try to build up his trade value.
  19. He does appear to be trying to go to right field more. This is good as it should help his consistency. That being said, he is a power hitter and thus far he is not getting much lift on the ball. If he can mesh the two approaches, watch out
  20. Jiminez has made a strong case to be the last bench player. I think his bat would work in a relief role. He would even be a decent platoon with Callaspo if need be. He is getting a lot of looks this spring and is making the most of them. He's definitely increased his value to the organization.
  21. Really a tough break for Hall. He appeared to have worked hard to be ready for this opportunity and had impressed early. I thought he had a chance at filling the last bench spot.
  22. I like Calhoun a lot. He plays the game the right way. But I don't see him being on the opening day roster this year. His development would be better served with at least part of the year in AAA. Get regular at bats and if he's needed here call him up.
