Israel vs. Palestine

I think he did, and that he inspired a lot of people - including Palestinians. There's no way to measure how much of an impact he's currently having, but his statement hasn't been forgotten.

And to be clear, I think it is sad that he did what he did, and I'd rather have seen him stay alive and help in other ways. But he still gets "mad props" (as the kids say).

You hyperbolize a guy that no one speaks of. There is a pretty easy measure of his impact; is he still in the conversation or was he just a 3 day news event? There are no people waving a flag with his image at rallies, there're no statues being built, no peace awards in his name. No one in the UN are referencing him, his legacy was buried with his ashes. Hell, a photographer wasn't even given an award for documenting the moment, unlike the Vietnamese monk that suicided in 1963.

California valedictorian will no longer give graduation speech over 'alarming' discussion

https://www.yahoo.com/news/california-valedictorian-no-longer-graduation-031542263.html

The University of Southern California said its valedictorian will no longer deliver a graduation speech this year, citing "substantial risks relating to security" over social media chatter surrounding the Israel-Hamas conflict.

"The intensity of feelings, fueled by both social media and the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, has grown to include many voices outside of USC and has escalated to the point of creating substantial risks relating to security and disruption at commencement," Provost Andrew Guzman said in a statement.

Sounds like they don't like whatever they think the valedictorian is going to say...

Universities have proven that free speech does not exist in their campuses. Ridiculous!

Among the calls against Tassabum as a graduation speaker were student group "Trojans For Israel," who said her selection turned "an inclusive and meaningful milestone into an unwelcoming and intolerant environment for Jewish graduates and their families."

It always amazes me when people get upset over other people choosing to exercise a right. Good Lord people, just put on some noise cancelling headphones when she speaks then.

"unprecedented attack on Israel"  ????

I mean, they gave Israel, the US and everyone else a heads up this was coming so everyone could prepare.

It's unprecedented only because they did it themselves this time as opposed through their proxies like Hamas and Hezbollah.

I'm guessing that's not what the Yahoo writer had in mind

It was Reuters but yeah. It was unprecedented in terms of failure. Nobody has lobbed 300 missiles etc. with so little to show for it.

I don't think anyone, including Iran, has the stomach to go to war. In their mind they had to retaliate against Israel to save face for when their consulate got bombed by them and to show their people they did something. But they knew none of their missiles were going to get through and do anything to cause casualties. Hence why they gave a week's notice of what they would be doing.

So now it is back to square one for the time being. They are just threatening Israel if they retaliate. Wash, rinse and repeat.

Just like when you advocated this for the truckers that were blocking the Ambassador Bridge.

Well yeah.  That happens when you tell the other side you're going to do it and they have days to prepare.
