He's the the guy who signs Joe Blanton's and Vernon Wells' checks. That must be a downer. I wonder if he's an alcoholic.

At this point we all pray and hope that we get Tanaka, but let us be realistic because we need to be.... We need a player who can fill our #3 spot and eventually be our ace in the forecoming years for when the terrible days that Jered Weaver starts to regress. I absolutely think Tanaka can be that guy. But at the end, let the bad news set in as many clubs are interested in his service. I was reading, a week ago, a article that the Cubs are willing to go all out for Tanaka ( that doesn't involve the heavy spending Yankees, the sneaky Dodgers, and etc. ). As I understand we don't have lots of cash to spend as well as I think this will come down to a bidding and location wa…

Here's what Robo-Vinny will extract from beneath the Coliseum turf 100 years hence; there's room for your suggested items too. Sports memories can be fleeting and easily dissolvable, sort of like cotton candy. The events of 2013 likely won't be remembered in 100 years, but what if we created a sports time capsule, and put in items representing the year in sports? We could bury it at the 50-yard line of the Coliseum, which will probably be the only existing sports venue still standing in 2113, and have it opened by Vin Scully, whose consciousness will be placed in an android doppelganger in 2022, and who will be starting his 165th year as Dodgers announcer in 2113. Vi…

The Angels finalized a one-year contract with Raul Ibanez on Friday after the 41-year-old passed a physical. The two sides had been close for more than a week to the deal, which will pay Ibanez a base salary of $2.75 million, with another $2.25 million available through incentives. View the full article

By Robert Cunningham, AngelsWin.com Staff Writer - Happy Holidays Everyone! To spread some Holiday cheer I’d like to point out the gift still sitting in your stocking that you may have overlooked. Below is a blind player comparison based on each individual player’s final full AAA season before they broke into the big leagues1, adjusted to 550 plate appearances (PA’s): 1 Player D had 21 PA’s in the Majors in the year previous to this but I ignored that for this article. Looking at the table you have to say that Players A, C, and D appear to be the most attractive. Player A has youth, stolen base ability, and solid BB% and K% rates. Player B has …

Who do we go after? With Tanaka most likely being posted, it makes Garza a little easier to get, but on the other hand, is the high risk high reward on Tanaka worth it? I would say that we be content with Garza and go after him. We aren't looking for an ace, we're looking for a #3 guy, which is exactly what Garza is. Thoughts?

The angel of the Lord appeared to them and the glory of the Lord shone round them. They were terrified, but the angel said “Do not be afraid. Listen, I bring you news of great joy, a joy to be shared by the whole people. Today in the town of David a savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord.â€ The shopping is over. The cooking is done. The presents are wrapped. It is time to gather with friends and family and focus on the true meaning of the holidays. Friends. Family. Peace and tranquility. As another year draws to a close, we, at AngelsWin.com want to thank you, our friends, our family, our fans for making the website your internet home. This y…

There are some posters here who don't want us ''over-paying'' for Tanaka. Sorry to tell you but you better get used to it, there aren't going to be any legit #2-#3 pitchers on the market for any less in the up-coming years. The price for good pitching is going to go up exponentially, and unless you're a team like the Cardinals, Mariners, Rays or whatever other team that drafts home grown, quality pitchers (we aren't one of them) you will have to give (even if it means over paying) to get. Tanaka is worth the risk, name #1's/#2/even legitimate #3 pitchers who are entering FA in the upcoming years (inb4 someone names guys who are guaranteed to re-sign this year) who wo…

Now that we know the 9 guys who will get the majority of the starts, let us now start dreaming of the lineup that will pump out 800+ runs. Here is mine Calhoun RF Trout CF Pujols 1B Hamilton LF Kendrick 2B Ibanez DH Conger C Aybar SS Freese 3B The wild card is Freese. I know that I am probably in the minority with Freese batting last but I want to build the lineup around Trout. For some reason I think we see the 2013 Freese and not the 2012 Freese. If we get the 2012 Freese, then he hits fifth. If we get the 2013 Freese with little pop but high OBP then we have two guys batting in front of Trout that will be on base on a 350+ clip forcing teams to…

Here. Basically it points out that Santiago is moving from a hitter friendly ballpark to a pitcher friendly park, and one that is particularly helpful for Santiago's two biggest problem areas: walks and home runs. The author thinks he'll be able to repeat his mid 3.00s ERA, or at least be below 4.00.

I love these Angel forums as I have been a part of them forever it seems. It took me a while to make it to this one, As I enjoyed our old one so much it was hard to change. But living in Georgia these forums provide a great source of info to keep up with my beloved Angels. And I understand the optimism that surrounds every preseason. But sadly reality starts to set in about June or July for a lot of us Angel fans. Is this another preseason where we are putting more faith in hope and wishes or is this a preseason we are dealing with reality? It seems we are wishing for a lot this preseason out of our Angels. Good bounce back seasons for Pujols and Hamilton , Trout to…

He started his job by trading off our pitching prospects, giving away our farm system for 3 months of Greinke, and when he didn't even try to get him he dismantled a team that only needed a good starting pitcher to compete. Guess what? We still need a good starting pitcher. Trading Bourjos for David Freese is an example of DiPoto's mind boggling inability to make a trade that helps an area of the team without creating holes and potential disasters. One of our best trade chips this year didn't go towards a pitcher. We got David Freese a 3rd baseman. He's like the white Callaspo with inferior defense. So instead of keeping Bourjos' speed and superior defense while let…

If Tanaka is not a viable option, the Angels should do everything they can to extend Trout and go into the season with what they have. None of the other pitchers available are going to help this team outside of Garza and he is a huge risk because of arm injuries and how much he will be paid. Already it will be tough for the Angels to make the playoffs this upcoming season, no need to recklessly spend money on pitching. Of course I don't know how much it would cost to extend Trout or if he actually would sign an extension but I would rather the Angels kept that money for that possibility than sink money into another big pitching contract.

http://www.bostonglobe.com/sports/2013/12/22/sunball/F961ShfcCo23Hl7r9tm2PP/story.html 2. Mark Mulder, LHP, free agent — Mulder is looking for a creative contract as he makes his comeback attempt. He may have to agree to a minor league deal first, with incentives if he makes the major league club. Mulder has worked out for the Giants, Padres, Diamondbacks, Angels, and Phillies over two sessions. In the second session, Mulder, who hasn’t pitched in the majors since 2008, improved his velocity from 88 to 92 miles per hour. It’s a long road back, but the fact that Mulder’s shoulder is showing no signs of discomfort could mean he’d be a good back-end option for …

then what the hell do we do? We have traded our biggest chip for two of the few arms that might actually have been available. Obviously the team doesn't want to lose a draft pick, so that should take them out of the running for the next two best pitchers (Jiménez and Garza). So the way I see it, we either get Garza, or we take a big step down and get Arroyo or Maholm. Any out-of-the box ideas? There is no room for Choo, so I don't think that is a realistic option. I wonder if the Brewers would consider a Lohse for Cron+ trade.

It seems every justification for free agent signing these days is TV Money. Well, Wendy Thurman really does a great job breaking it down. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/the-new-national-tv-contracts-and-2014-payrolls/ Essentially, teams will be putting a third of their TV revenues into a pool. Baseball is booming and should enable teams to spend even more. Sounds like the Phillies are next in line to have a new TV deal after next season along with the Reds and the Diamondbacks (hence their "interest" in Tanaka). Regardless, it is an interesting read and explains more about where teams are getting all the money from.

By Robert Cunningham, AngelsWin.com Staff Writer - Angels-Relevant PITCH f/x Data Originally when the idea of retaining Jason Vargas was being discussed on AngelsWin.com near the end of the 2013 season, I postulated that it would be more cost-affordable for the Angels to simply let Vargas sign elsewhere and trade for a young, cost-controlled left-handed starting pitcher of similar capability rather than spending the money on Jason. This happened in the Angels trade for Skaggs and Santiago but I wanted to see which one of them, if either, was a Vargas-equivalent type pitcher (you should start to see where this is going). As I dived deeper into the FanGraphs PITCH f/…
