If you abolish the XP, are teams forced to go for 2 every time? I like the whole "should we go for 2" scenarios in the 3rd quarter.

It says in the article that you can still go for 2, but if you don't make it you lose a point.

Losing a point is dumb.

If they want to make it interesting, they can go for two from the 1 yard line or kick a 37 yard XP with the ball at the 20. If the XP is missed, opponent gets the ball at the 20 (no kickoff). If conversion is made, there is a kickoff. If 2pt conversion attempt fails, you still kickoff. Only a missed 37 yard XP would eliminate a kickoff.

Technically they lose a point now because the extra point is almost automatic. So it keeps it the same.

This is one thing that the late World Football League had right, IMO. A touchdown was worth seven points, which meant that it was worth more than two field goals, and after every touchdown a team tried for an "action point", which they had to run or pass for from the 2 1/2 yard line.
