To me this gives me zero faith in Artes ability to run this team. Try and buy a championship cool. Allowing your scouting dept to be so bad is unfathomable. Remember we had Like 10 picks in the top 80 in 2 drafts in a row and all we have to show for it is Trout. And like Weaver he fell to us. Its like Alabama in college. Best recuiting class best players but you don't make a kicker a priority. We learned with sosh You are only as good as the talent under you. once bud black and Joe madden left sosh is just average. Stop buying radio stations and put all your resources in fixing this arte.

20 bucks it was 7 to 10 top 60or 100. after we lost krod tex 1 year next yr we lost 1 or more, was stoked thought we were rebuilding sysyem.

Here are the Angels picks from the top 100. Angels were never close to 7 in the top 60 or 10 in the top 100.

2013: 2

2012: 0

2011: 1

2010: 6 (Cowart, Bedrosian, Clarke, Lindsay, Bolden, Tillman). Jury still out but looks promising. Calhoun was drafted at 264. That's $$

2009: 6 (Grichuk, Skaggs, Trout, Richards, Corbin, Kehrer). Scouting should be applauded.

2008: 1

2007: 1

2006: 1

2005: 3

The decline of our farm system is the reason all the old scouting department personnel are gone. It is similar to when Stoneman took over. It will take about 5 years to hopefully replenish the system. The beginning of the decline, as i see it, was Reagins firing Eddie Bane. Then the Clay Daniels debacle. Every season since the system has seen less talent and depth.

2010 is in no way promising.  Lindsey and Bedrosian might make it as regulars. Cowart might, or he could have another horrible season.  Clarke, Bolden and Tillman are done.

Definitely. And I love Calhoun as much as the next guy.

But 1 major leaguer 4 years later is incredibly disappointing.

there really aren't that many major leaguers from that draft as of yet.  Most are college players or top 15 picks.

that said, that draft is almost hilariously epic for it's failure.  Aside from the guys we know, there almost isn't anyone left in the system from that draft.  Granted, Schugel and Roach got traded and the overall draft was fairly poor outside of the top of the first round.  But man o chevitz that's ugly.

The 2010 draft in general doesn't look all that good.

Guys like Aaron Sanchez, Nick Castellanos, Noah Syndergaard, and Taijuan Walker all were in the range where the Angels had their picks but none of those guys are sure things yet either. That doesn't mean the Angels didn't have a terrible draft because they certainly did. But the class doesn't look all that strong.

There were plenty of guys they could have taken... Folty, Lee, Parker, Brown, Yelich, etc.  Bad scouting.

While a case can be made for them having made better picks -- there are all of 8 guys in the first ten rounds with more MLB at bats than Calhoun has amassed.

As bad as that draft looks in light of the large number of early picks, most teams would be very happy with any draft that produces even ONE everyday starting position player.

It's worth noting that while a case could be made they missed on a lot of pitchers that could have helped this team, the real issue was their inability to sign a couple pitchers they did draft in previous years -- Matt Harvey, and to a lesser degree, Josh Spence.

Sorry but if you're drafting 5/6 times before the second round and come away with Chevy Clarke, Ryan Bolden and Dan Tillman (who was a reliever, even when they scouted him in the Cape Cod League) then you failed. Two of those guys never made it past low-A ball and the other managed to get to high-A before arm issues took their toll.

I read an article that says about 17% of all draft picks since 2000 have made the big leagues. It puts things into perspective for sure, but I don't think a draft that produces only one everyday starting position player would be considered a success. Granted, not every player who makes the majors will end up being an every day player, but I think most teams would hope for 2-3 regulars in every draft.
