Nathan likes Angels, Tigers, Yankees

but you're not just buying saves with Nathan - you're buying (based on past numbers) a great WHIP and K/BB ratio, and a guy who has done it for years.  The "don't buy saves" thing is more about guys who have high saves totals because of a lot of opportunities, but who have poor peripherals.  I don't think it applies to Nathan.

You can probably get similar production from a number of other guys who will be cheaper.

Brian Wilson, for instance.

2010. 2009 was good, but not great. Outside of the number of saves, the Angels got just as good of a season out of Frieri in 2012.

Frieri's 2012 (Angel) BABIP against: .190, career: .270

Wilson's BABIP against (2009): .308. career: .311

Which season stands as a career outlier?

Frieri had a great season in 2012, just not sure that it's indicative of his true level.

The biggest concern with Wilson is his health (and it is a pretty large concern). With Frieri, it's a toss-up between his lack of consistency and his lack of secondary pitches. This latter factor was exposed in 2013.

I'm in favor of bringing Wilson in because he WOULD be cheaper and can be signed to a deal with incentives, and can be just as effective as Nathan has been, and is seven years younger than Nathan.

Frieri has a lack of consistency? Outside of this year he has been very consistent.
