Raining, no wind. Still not looking forward to the drive early this morning to the Inglewood area to take Carol to her surgical appointment. Going to need to take the truck to get through intersections. I am surprised they hadn't cancelled.

Hope all goes well for Carol, @Blarg.  Drive carefully out there.

No more rain on the west side.

So up here in Big Bear, we made it through pretty unscathed.  Just under 5.00” of rain for the 24 hour period (4.96” to be exact).  The winds were clocked at gusts about 60 MPH, but really no significant issues up here, a few scattered power outages lasting an hour or so, but nothing we don’t see during any storm.

NOW down below in Forest Falls…. Different story.  As usual, Forest Falls had significant flash flooding and Highway 38 is completely washed out.  It will be closed, again, for a significant amount of time.  And CalTrans, in their infinite wisdom, went ahead with their scheduled maintenance and closed Highway 18 from Snow Valley to Big Bear Dam until 4pm.  Fucking pure brilliance.

So now the only way for people to get down the hill is through Apple Valley and over the Cajon Pass.  Thank you CalTrans for not taking the advice of officials and delaying the scheduled work for a couple days.

Other than that, all is good.  The sun is breaking through and we are drying out.

When you drop down 18 into Lucerne Valley, if you make a right on highway 247 about 15 miles you get to Bessemer Mine Rd. If you follow that road a few miles you get to Soggy Dry Lake (where we used to camp and do OHV stuff). Does that dry lake fill up when we have a big rain event?

Had breakfast at Malarky’s and drank beers on a boat in the harbor for half the day. This storm was a nothing burger.

i think people heard the word hurricane and were expecting exceptionally fierce winds and two feet of rain. it weakened pretty significantly by the time it reached us.

i thought i heard that this was the single rainiest August day on record in LA county.

I never take that way, but when I do end up on Hwy 18 through Lucerne Valley, the dry lake by the shooting range always fills up so I assume Soggy Dry Lake does also @Jay

Enjoy your free day off today, @Tank.

Do something outside on this nice, sunny day.

Not all that much in Las Vegas proper. More rain than we usually get, but the widespread flooding that was predicted didn't materialize. We had some wind, but not enough for me to put down the patio umbrella while I was in the back yard last night.

The mountains west of us were less fortunate. Eight inches of rain, and a large section of the road to the Mount Charleston/Lee Canyon area was completely washed away. That is about 20 minutes from the house.

We used to camp and ride dirt bikes just southeast of there at Giant Rock.

I’ve rode out there many times. It’s been a long time though. My old ass will just get hurt if I ride dirt bikes again. I used to go bird hunting a lot near sawtooth canyon near Slash X off the 247.
