It's going to be 38 degrees tonight. Up to two feet of snow over the next 48 hours in Salt Lake City.

What Northeastern people don’t realize is that those of us on the West Coast, especially the upper Northwest, deal with this annually.  

Usually, our fire season really starts to take off from late July through the beginning of winter, but because of years of drought, our fire season has been all year round.

This year, because of our epic winter, it’s going to take a season to fully dry and cure the trees and underbrush.  Wind is the natural enemy, which speed drying.

The Northwest, who had an unusually dry winter, is getting an up close view of what we see almost annually.  And now, because they never see this, it’s become a big issue.

Now that it’s happening back east, maybe Congress will open their eyes and press for Canada to manage their forests like we try and do out here.

I don't think it's any coincidence that you retired just after we get the mother of all rainy seasons in Calolfornia.  

BTW, hiking in Griffith Park, it's ripe for a quick moving fire.  Lot of dead vegetation where there were lots of green and flowers a few weeks ago.
