Gameday Thread (4/16/24): Angels @ Rays: Soriano on the mound, Sano at 1B, Trout DH'ing

He is going on cue, I doubt he has a green light. They need to harness that speed for better pitch counts but then you have Net-0 up there that hit what would have been a double play if Adell wasn't on the move.

Exactly.  I’d rather see Adell on a straight steal since it appears Neto can’t hit his ass with both hands right now.

Recency bias.

Yep.  The reality is that the Angels kinda need Schanuel to work out.  They don't have another 1B in the system who's actually a real 1B.  I know everyone thinks you can just slap anyone there and make it work--and, to some degree, that's true.  But if you're taking someone like Ward, who's a good defensive OF, then you're lessening his overall value if he's playing 1B.  Sano and Drury have very limited upside and both are free agents after this year.  Cole Fontelle played a lot of 1B in college last year, but the Angels seem to be focusing on him as a 3B.

So if Schanuel doesn't pan out, the Angels will have to sign a free agent 1B, move someone to a different position, or spend another draft pick on a true 1B and try to develop him.  Obviously, it's best for everyone if Schanuel can hack it.  Let him play--or at least give him another 50-75 plate appearances before you ship him out.

Even if it was, it was terrible.

You go late on a hit a day run but the batter has to make contact. No reason to trust Net-0 with that task while he is in a hitting slump. It could be a Washington mind game to push Neto out of comfort zone and play instinct baseball. Would have been a better call with Rendon up.

Moniak with an absolute bomb to dead center.  Nice to finally see that

Seems like we frequently post almost the exact same thing at the same time in Gameday Threads!  Ha.
