From Monday:

Right-hander Robert Stephenson (shoulder) said he is feeling “pretty good” and “moving in the right direction.” Stephenson said he’s expecting to throw another bullpen session later this week. He isn’t sure how soon he’ll be able to pitch in an exhibition game, but it’s “definitely possible” that he’ll get enough innings in the spring to be ready for opening day. “I’m not exactly sure of the timetable at the moment, but that’s the plan, to be ready for opening day,” Stephenson said. …

I am fairly certain that they have to in order for the teams insurance to cover them and their contracts.

Teams almost never get insurance on contracts. It's too expensive and doesn't cover the stuff that happens mostly.

But a player would need to submit to a physical if he wanted the contract.

@Jeff Fletcher, any news?

As @BTH pointed out, I did just report this.

Not directed at you, @jsnpritchett, but as a heads up for all of you, I am going to decrease the amount of this type of news that I report (for free) on Twitter. I want people to subscribe and read my stories. (Of course you guys get a free version of all of them here.)

Thanks for this Jeff I was not aware they didnt get insurance on these contracts. I figured it would be standard practice on investments on such high dollar items (players).

Maybe the highest profile new acquisition with a relatively  good track record. And with expectations to be better than average. And already dealing with an injury. Welcome to the team!

Hopefully he doesn't miss much real season time. And it isn't a lingering, on going issue.

As if.....

Opens door for some other pitchers to make OD. I think Pomeranz could make it.

Been wondering about Pomeranz. Always liked him and think he could be helpful out of bullpen in long relief.

Wow!  Angels luck rears it ugly head once again. Or can this be a case of sneaking one past our crack medical staff? Doesnt MRI scanning pick up inflamation. It did with Cole's elbow. This is just beyond belief.
