Didn't have a LHH specialist without Loup and need to add lots of relievers in general, not all are going to be expensive

Talk about a fringe veteran player. Bounced around a bunch of minor league teams with barely any major league time. And weak numbers even in the minors. And  with that contract?   The Angels are showing desperation for a lefty reliever.

Minasian could have taken Sunday off and Kolarek would still be on the market. He could take next Sunday off as well and Kolarek would still be available. In fact the Sunday before pitchers and catchers show up, that wouldn't have been too soon to make this deal.

Typically, when the Angels acquire a player that looks like garbage on paper, I think to myself "Self, these guys are professionals and know something you don't".

I cannot think of a time where I had that thought and the player actually became a productive contributor to the MLB team.

Doesn't work that way when I do like a signing/trade though, they usually end up sucking too.

So therefore, I deduce, my baseball evaluation skills are garbage.

The guys getting paid by the Angels to make these decisions aren't doing all that much better however.

Such is the existence of a post-2010 Angels fan.

I am happy for the Kolarek family as it is the holiday season and in the spirit of giving here is 900,000 from Arte. Angel's have 8 BP spots and how much stronger did it get with this signing. Starters are coming off the board Nola, Maeda and now Gray.
