Going through IVF for our first child, we did a lot of research into exactly what happens in the first weeks of an embryo's life. Apparently day 14 has been the cut off for an embryo's ability to live outside the womb, so much of what happens from week 2 to week 6 is a big mystery.

We have a photo of our daughter three days after she was conceived in a Petrie dish. She was an 8-celled embryo. All eight cells were equal in size and appearance, which was a good sign that implantation would be successful. And it was.
