Gameday Thread: (7/21/23) Pirates @ Angels: Ohtani on the mound

I remember the 1971 team very well.  They played in the first World Series game played at night.  I became a fan... and they became my NL team of sorts.  Robert Clemente was my favorite player back then.  Got to see him play in 1972 in person at Dodger Stadium (my first trip to Dodger stadium) - his last season before he tragically died.

Enjoyed their winning in 1979 too.  Loved Willie Stargell's windmill swing when he stepped into the box before the first pitch.

Don't forget that a rather young Barry Bonds was just getting goin'.

And just a bit earlier it was Clemente and Clendenen.

I had to double-check, but Bonds didn't overlap with any of those guys. Madlock was traded away in 1985, Parker left after '83, Moreno after '82, and Stargell retired in '82. Bonds' rookie season was '86.
