I wish our team was like the A's

Recommended Posts

The A's wish they had our fans.

Let's trade.

Not especially.

Any A's fan just wants:a decent stadium at a decent location and an owner that actually cares about a team.

That's it.

It doesn't have to be At&t, Coors or PNC Park...but a stadium that's about 25 years out of date located right next to 880 and International Blvd isn't going to attract many casual people.

The A's used six relievers tonight in their 18-inning win over the Yankees, all of them with ERA's of 2.40 or better.

Jesse Chavez pitched 5.1 innings of one-hit ball to win it.

They're 21-5 since May 17th.

He looked great and it didn't even like the Yankees were just going through the motions on getaway day.

the upside of not having any high priced players is that if you don't perform, you sit.  When you get your shot, you better make the best of it.  There aren't many who have a guaranteed spot in that lineup.  They seem to have bought into this as well.

They also have some talented young pitching and their bullpen throws strikes.

Butcher should tell our guys to do that.

First thing tomorrow morning.

A's record between playoff appearances:

2007: 76 - 86

2008: 75 - 86

2009: 75 - 87

2010: 81 - 81

2011: 74 - 88

Anyone else want to suck for 5 seasons while you collect draft picks, gamble on questionable characters like Milton Bradley, over-the-hill Mike Piazza, Jack Cust, trade young players like Carlos Gonzalez, Gio Gonzalez, and Trevor Cahill and, generally, going year-to-year mixing and matching other team's failed pospects, aging vets seraching for another shot, mid-level MLB talent on a 1-2 year deal, young prospects traded for even younger prospects and high-priced gamble thrown in here or there.

The A's do it out of necessity...is this really what you want?

We are going to find out...Angels mortgaged the future to win now and failed miserably. Payback was always going to be a bitch...just didn't realize it would occur before the team actually won anything.

That's actually what a lot of aw folks are calling for now with a rebuild.  Except that the halos would do it with a 100+mil payroll.  The thing that makes me laugh is that many assume that by rebuilding we are somehow likely to have a good team again in 3-5 years.

If the Angels were going to rebuild, it will have to be with the assumption that Pujols and Hamilton are total busts...but that they are going to be a part of the roster and full-time players at least for the next few years....the hope being that as you get towards the tail end of their contract they put up enough production/return to enough form that someone will take the last few years of their contract off your hands.

Might guess would be the Angels double down for the next 1-2 years and hope they pull an inside straight...they almost have to...while trying to restock the farm system, especially the lower levels, and hope that some of those guys start to pan out in 4-5 years when the rebuilding effort will really be starting. That's a tough plan to execute though...you can't go the FA route and rebuild the farm system and you don't really have any prospects to bring in major league talent. You almost have to trade some current value, like Bourjos, maybe guys like Aybar or Kendrick, for the big pieces you need (pitching) and hope that you can sign a cheap veteran or two to fill in the gaps created by moving some of your pieces.

Is five seasons really that long considering most MLB teams haven't reached the playoffs for decades?  guess how many times the angels have won the division the last 12 years?  5 times! just like the A's!  get off your high horse.  the angels haven't been that much successful despite the higher payroll.

Easy, overly-sensitive A's fan.  I don't possess a horse, much less one of enormous stature.  Just stating facts:  from 2007-2011, the A's sucked balls and have had one playoff appearance in the six seasons (see, I can pick random time frames too!)

in the last 6 seasons, the Angels have won 3 division titles to the A's 1...oh, yeah, and won a WS in the last 12 years.

Those who want to be like the A's need to consider what it took to be the A's of 2012-2013...
