Do you honestly believe they will skip 2-3 seasons of Major League Baseball? Seriously?

I had a dream that they figured it out.

I honestly don't think they're that far apart, except on the CBT, which is the biggest issue.

But the owners moved, so now the players need to move today, and hopefully it's enough that the Owners agree and the rest of it gets settled. Owners moved from $220 to $228, Players have also moved down previously.

If I was MLBPA, I'd offer the same starting $228 number with the smaller penalties you currently proposed. Gets it to $248 by the end.

$228/$233/$238/$243/$248.

Then accept or slightly modify the leagues minimum salary proposal at $700K. Maybe $700K for 1 year of service or below, 725 for 2 years or below, 750 for 3 years or below. Use the leagues 10k, per year for both.

Ask for $40M Bonus Pool, increasing by $5M per year to $60.

Agree to 14 team playoff if expansion occurs to 32 teams. Set increases in Bonus Pool for this scenario. Eliminate division winner, and just do League winner and 6 wildcards. (Or do 4 divisions, with the lower three division winners doing best of 5).

Its solvable.

"The impact

MLB ownership is losing the lockout in the court of public opinion, but it’s unclear what, if any, impact this will have on fans’ appetite for baseball when the sport returns. Forty-six percent of MLB fans said they feel “frustrated” about the lockout, but the same share said they are “hopeful” — presumably that the two sides will come to an agreement without losing a significant number of games. Forty-two percent of fans said they are “indifferent” about the lockout, which is arguably worse for the league.

Nearly a third of baseball fans (31 percent) said the full 162-game baseball season is too long, so the elimination of a handful of games is unlikely to have a major emotional impact on fans that could lead to a boycott, even if it does cost teams a few games worth of attendance and in-stadium revenue.

As for playoff expansion, MLB owners are pushing for a 14-team field, which reportedly would net the league an additional $100 million in annual TV rights revenue. The players’ union has used this as a bargaining chip in negotiations, reportedly refusing to grant the league more than 12 teams, which would still bring in $85 million for the league.

MLB and the MLBPA did not respond to requests to comment on this story.

The March 5-6, 2022, survey was conducted among a representative sample of 1,305 self-identified MLB fans ages 18 and older, with an unweighted margin of error of plus or minus 3 percentage points."

They say a 14 team postseason field would bring in an “additional” $100m.

Additional compared to what exactly?

Compared to:

no postseason?

10 team postseason?

a 12 team postseason?

If you had clicked on the article that's linked to in the underlined portion you're quoting, you'd have your answer:

"ESPN’s Jeff Passan reported yesterday that in the event of a push to 14 teams, ESPN would pay MLB an additional $100MM in television fees for the newly created games and postseason content. That’s all the explanation needed for why the league views expanded playoffs as an imperative, but even a move to a 12-team format would be immensely beneficial. Andrew Marchand of the New York Post reports that even expanding to 12 teams would net MLB an additional $85MM in revenue from ESPN. Those figures are critical to keep in mind, as they provide context for the gains the union hopes to achieve through its own asks in negotiation."

...and here's a tweet from Marchand that also sums it up:

So they're saying the expansion from 10 teams to either 12 or 14 would lead to an "additional" $85-100M, because the extra games would create a new round of playoffs.  ESPN's deal is for the games in the new round.

Should have been solved months ago. Owners set lockout then no meetings for 9 weeks. MLB is going to lose many fans that will not come back.
