But if we replaced Cole money with Rendons money and we are still at least checking in on Bauer, then you’d have to assume that if we got Cole last year we’d be checking in on other high priced free agents this year.

Angels never really had a shot at Cole. The cost was prohibitive.

Even though we were led to believe that Cole wanted to "come home" and play in Anaheim.

We're seeing a similar scenario play out.

So if we did get Cole last year, then what FA would you sign?  Would we fill more gaps or go with 1 big FA?

If we had Cole, Fletcher would have probably been at 3B and La Stella at 2B. I'd imagine both could have been extended, perhaps we would have made a QO to Simmons and he would have accepted. 

I'd prefer Rendon and Bauer but we don't have a Bauer.

What makes you think we would have kept Simmons? I think he booked his train ticket out of Anaheim the day he decided not to play out the rest of the season, for whatever the reason.

That is a lot of money and years to give Cole (9 years/$324 million).

Better to have Rendon and Bauer, and only pay maybe $70-$80 million total above and beyond what Cole gets by himself.

If the Angels had gotten Cole last year than they would probably be seriously in on Realmuto this year. So maybe think Cole/Realmuto vs Bauer/Rendon.

But Quintana/Suzuki is better than either. Edge: Minasian.

I’ll still take Rendon/Bauer over that. I find Relamuto a little overrated and Rendon gives us that steady bat in the middle of the order protecting Trout. Because at the end of the day Realmuto isn’t even in the same league hitting wise to Rendon.
