AL West Title path for Halos?

Recommended Posts

The main takeaway for this season is that the Angels have improved this off-season and parity in the A.L. West has increased. There are four teams that have the potential to win 85 or more games. If the Astros, A's, Rangers, and us are taking more wins away from each other then having an 88-win season suddenly might be an opportunity to take the Wild Card spot at the minimum.

You really missed the whole point.   People are talking about possible paths for the Angels to win the AL West...not what will happen for sure.

Save your breath @Rally Gorilla  Any positive thoughts or optimism is regarded as fiction by a few on the board.  I am just glad they are not my investment managers.

It isn't likely, but there's a chance.

Every  team enters the season with a range of likely outcomes. For the Angels it is probably  82-92 wins, with 87 being the over/under. For the Astros it is more like 90-100, with 95 being the over/under.

But  there's possible overlap there: 90-92 wins. If the Angels perform in the "high zone" and the  Astros in the "low zone," they have a chance.

I think Houston wins the AL West.

Halos could be one of the wild card teams.

Much depends on whether Teheran (and Bundy) can eat some innings as rotation guys instead of being Cahill and Harvey redux from 2019.

Halos 2020 line up is a typical AL offensive based game line up - so if the rotation can eat innings and get into the sixth inning in most games -- the Halos will have a chance to win / be in almost every game, That's a turn around right there,

If the position players can stay healthy and if Simmons can return to his 2018 form on offense  (perhaps moving him up in the line up to be a place setter) - this team could score a lot of runs,

Having said all this -- the Halos gambles on broken down starters trying to regain form has not been good in recent years.......so the real difference maker may be some deadline deal to pick up that key rotation guy for the stretch run.
