They were playing the infield in because the runner was at third. Victor questioned playing the infield in that early because that ball is probably a lineup where the runner doesn't score if the infield is back. That is just about the only outcome where the play doesn't work out. If you allow a hit it only costs you a runner on first because the run would've scored anyway.
