I just picked up an old (2009) Mac Pro from an e-waste recycling center in Santa Ana. It’s amazing what people throw away, this was an ~$8000 computer new.

I bought my first handgun in almost 15 years. (Im not a gun guy, really).

Basically, I stopped carrying off duty a few years back (for the most part). Combo of department policy (dont carry while consuming alcohol) and the fact the brick of an off duty handgun i own really wasnt concealable at all....unless im one of those dork cops that wears silly looking button up shirts specifically to conceal the "concealed" gun on their hip.

Anyway, seeing that shooting the other day, and reading that 6 off duty cops were there, but none of them armed (probably for the same reason as me) hit home...

So i finally broke down and bought a crappy little pocket gun to eliminate excuses. Being that im one of the few allowed to carry, id feel like shit if i couldnt step in if im in a situation like that....

We had just moved to the neighborhood and I drove by the Vons that evening coming home from working over the weekend. There were helicopters, the emergency crews and lots of people being interviewed by the sherrifs outside. I had just talked to my parents and told them what a quiet little community we moved into. 

Following that incident the Washington Mutual bank hired two private security officers with very visible sidearms to guard the bank from the parking lot. They wore cowboy hats and handle bar mustaches, even dusters on cold days like out of some casting department for a western. Nice guys and were there for years until Chase bought out WAMU and replaced the guards with bullet proof glass.
